Ontario program structures and intake have changed. Check the current OINP overview for active streams; do not rely on historical stream names or opening dates.

01

Understand Express Entry

Express Entry manages applications for three federal economic programs. Being eligible for the pool does not guarantee an invitation.

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST)
  • Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and profile accuracy
  • Category-based selection and invitation rounds
  • Canadian and foreign skilled work experience
02

Explore provincial pathways

Provincial programs have their own criteria and intake schedules. A nomination and a federal PR application are distinct stages.

  • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP): current active pathways only
  • Occupation, employer, residence and regional requirements
  • Language testing and Educational Credential Assessments
  • Proof of funds according to the specific program
03

Prepare for application and life as a resident

Keep claims consistent across your profile, supporting documents and application. Permanent resident status also carries ongoing responsibilities.

  • Permanent residence documentation and application preparation
  • Employment evidence, identity documents and supporting translations
  • PR refusals and reviewing options with an authorized professional
  • PR card renewal and travel documents
  • Residency obligations and travel history

Frequently asked questions.

Is a CRS score an approval prediction?

No. CRS is a ranking system within Express Entry. Invitation criteria and rounds change, and an invitation is followed by a separate application assessment.

Are all Ontario streams open?

No. Program availability changes. Use the official Ontario overview to confirm current streams and intake before planning an application.
