Completion of a Canadian program is a meaningful milestone. Your next steps depend on the program, your study history, your status and current immigration requirements.

01

Check your exact PGWP requirements

Language and field-of-study rules can vary by credential and relevant application dates. Start with the official eligibility page.

02

Organize completion documents

Review your final transcript, completion letter, passport expiry and current status together. Follow IRCC application timing instructions.

03

Confirm permission before working

Work while awaiting a PGWP decision is conditional. Do not assume that submitting any application gives work authorization.

04

Research longer-term pathways

Canadian work experience may matter to some PR programs. An invitation or approval is never guaranteed by holding a PGWP.
